Waves Music Festival made a triumphant return to the picturesque setting of Manvers Lake in Wath-upon-Dearne for its second year, drawing enthusiastic support from the local community. Many attendees, living within walking distance, enjoyed the convenience and the stellar lineup of bands throughout the day.
The festival kicked off with Rock Pits, a local band from Barnsley, who took the audience on a nostalgic journey through the iconic eras of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Sumo, a rock, indie & pop covers band followed. The Sheffield-based band kept the momentum going with hits from artists like the Arctic Monkeys and The Killers, celebrating the later decades.
A tribute band dedicated to the phenomenal Taylor Swift enthralled the young audience, especially in light of the immense popularity of Taylor's ongoing Eras tour. The kids eagerly swarmed the stage as they screamed and sang along to every song. The energy was electric, with some of the young fans securing an autograph from the talented performer afterwards.
Rotherham based ‘Eltonesque’ followed, captivating everyone with his remarkable vocals and well-known hits. One festival goer remarked “If you closed your eyes, it could have been Elton John himself singing, his voice sounded just like him!”
The evening culminated with an authentic tribute to Queen, featuring all the legendary hits such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ ‘It’s A Kind of Magic,’ and ‘We Will Rock You.’ The crowd sang along with great enthusiasm, bringing the festival to a spectacular close.
Chris Wordsworth, Manvers Events said:
“ I was amazed by the incredible turnout from the community at the festival. Our goal was to create an enjoyable event for local people without charging exorbitant prices. One of the highlights for me was seeing how much everyone enjoyed the event. The excitement and smiles on the kids' faces when ‘Taylored Swift’ took the stage was truly magical.”
Here are just some of the lovely comments we received from the festival goers:
“Brilliant acts and lovely time spent with family & friends in a lovely local setting."
“We had a fantastic day. We arrived at around 2 o'clock, not really sure what to expect, but we thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. The music was great, varied and top quality, and the atmosphere was a lovely, friendly, family day. We will definitely come back next year.”
“The crowd of all ages were enjoying the music together, my kids loved it as did myself and my husband!
Mark Benton, Manvers Lake Trust said:
“As a founder member of the charitable trust that manages Manvers Lake we never expected that it would bring so many positive benefits. The lake and surrounding park land provide a space where residents can enjoy active recreation, and the onsite club, Manvers Waterfront Boat Club, offers activities that were previously unavailable in this area before its regeneration. In addition to sports, hosting a music festival enhances the use of the land even further. The land is held in perpetuity for local people to enjoy.”
