Ready, Set, Row!

Manvers Lake and its surrounding park land are often used for community events and activities. Seasonal festivals, charity races, outdoor concerts, and sporting events frequently take place here, providing entertainment but also bring people together, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

In June, we hosted the first-ever 'Theo’s Dragon Boat Race,' and it was an extraordinary, fun-filled day! Eleven teams, each composed of 17 enthusiastic supporters (four of which proudly represented the hospital staff), took to the lake to compete fiercely while raising essential funds to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Emily, Events Fundraising Manager, The Children’s Hospital Charity, said,

“A huge THANK YOU for all your support yesterday, it was a fantastic day!”

One of the competitors, Brendan, Arnold Magnetics said,

“We all loved it, it was an amazing event and experience all contributing for a great cause!”

All money raised will go towards supporting specialist treatment from head to toe, by funding life-saving equipment, new facilities, a comfortable environment and vital research, which changes paediatric care for thousands of children from across the world.

On 13th July, Bluebell Woods Children’s Hospice are returning for their annual 'Dragon Boat Race and Family Fun Day.' This event raises funds for a cause close to everyone's hearts. Starting at 10am, the dedicated crews will be racing on the water throughout the day. Come along and cheer them on! Admission is FREE for spectators, and there will be numerous stalls and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Don't miss out on this fantastic day of community spirit and excitement!

The final charity event of the year, the 'Manvers Charity Shield' dragon boat race, will be held on 7th September. Last year's event was an overwhelming success, with teams from across the community competing in support of many great causes.

Multiple teams from both Rotherham and Barnsley NHS participated, adding a friendly competitive spirit to the event.

“We’ve had such an incredible day at our first Charity Dragon Boat Race at Manvers Lake & Dearne Valley Trust today. The sun was out! We had five wonderfully competitive teams who rowed with all their hearts and might! A huge thank you to everyone from The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust who took part. Three teams got to the semi finals! Whoop whoop! We’ll be back next year to hopefully claim the top spot!”  - The Rotherham Hospital & Community Charity

Once again the event is free to all spectators and there will be stalls, face painting and other attractions to keep everyone entertained throughout the day, including a licensed bar on site!
