A Dragon-ously Splendid Day at Manvers Lake

Saturday, 12 July 2025 was a day to remember here at Manvers Lake Events, as the lake came alive with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice Dragon Boat Race & Family Fun Day.

Offering a spectacular setting, our Lake glowed under the July sun — and what better stage for a splashy fundraiser? Bluebell Wood described the day as their "first ever hospice team entry," with participants decking themselves out in Disney-themed fancy dress to bring an extra dash of magic to the water.
Teams from across the region lined up to row in high-energy heats, each led by a rhythmic drummer at the helm — the drums providing the heartbeat of an unforgettable race.
This annual fixture, now in its eighth year, has become a cornerstone of summer charity, and 2025 didn't disappoint. Last year’s race had raised over £33,000 — this year, Bluebell Wood was hopeful of surpassing that milestone. And guess what? The community stepped up — raising over £35,000, even before Gift Aid. What a triumph!
In the words of Bluebell Wood’s CEO, the event “is always full of team spirit, drawing big crowds and plenty of excitement.” Teams dressed up, gave their all, and made a real splash — while families and supporters kept the energy going from the sidelines.
We’d also like to extend a special thank you to John Healey MP for joining us on the day. Despite his demanding role as Secretary of State for Defence, he still made time to attend. His support and presence added real encouragement to teams, families, and the Bluebell Wood community. It was wonderful to see local leadership celebrating such an important cause alongside everyone who paddled, cheered, and donated. Also, a special mention to the Rapid Relief Team UK for serving up delicious burgers, with every penny going to Bluebell Wood.

Thank You to Everyone Who Made It Happen. To Bluebell Wood for entrusting us with hosting; sponsors, teams, volunteers, families, vendors — and most importantly, the incredible community spirit — thank you. You made Saturday, 12 July 2025, a shining success. Here’s to doing it all again in 2026!
