A Day of Paddles, Pride, and Purpose: Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity Dragon Boat Race

On Sunday, 1st June 2025, we hosted the much-anticipated Theo’s Dragon Boat Race, organised by the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity. This event marked the second year of this exciting challenge, and once again, it brought together teams from across the region to race for a cause that touches the hearts of many.

The day kicked off with the rhythmic beat of the drum, setting the pace for the 17-strong teams who took to the water in their dragon boats. Each team comprised 16 paddlers and a drummer, all united by a common goal: to raise vital funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The minimum fundraising target was set at £1,800 per team, with £1,000 to be raised by the end of April, making it an achievable yet impactful challenge for all participants.

After a series of thrilling heats, the competition culminated in a dramatic final. The champions of the day were Team Nick, who clinched victory for the second consecutive year. Their dedication and teamwork shone through, and they set a high standard for future participants.

The success of the event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity team, the participants, and all those who supported the event. All money raised will make a significant contribution to the hospital's ongoing work.

At Manvers Lake Events, we are proud to have been part of such a meaningful day. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part, volunteered, and supported the event. Your efforts have made a real difference in the lives of children and families who rely on Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

We look forward to welcoming you all again next year for another day of paddles, pride, and purpose!
